بن خلدون في هذا الكتاب أظهر إيران ، كرامة في العصر القديم.
I don't like this book. I don't like the life style in this book. I don't like the way the life style was described in this book. For my opinion, author described the life of Bengali in a negative way. Gogol was trying to keep a distance between him and his Bangali parents. He felt shame about his name which was a pet name but became his good name. He felt shame when he discovered that Americans rather talked to him, even though he was young, but not his father who spoke with Bengali accent. He felt shame when he compared the party of Americans, comfortable, easy, and self-serving, to his Indian style party, cooking a lot, many people, and host-guest relationship. This described the struggle of the second generations of immigrants. Same thing happened to Gogol's wife, Moushumi, who tried so hard to escape and became any other kind of person, but not Indian. I guess, this is called generation gap. What their parents thought was absolutely not whay Gogol and Moushumi thought. Now I have read this book twice, I still keep my opinion. However, I notices the love from Ashoke and Ashima, and their courages as immigrants. People is living by adjusting oneself to fit the environment.
